GSTN Alerts for QRMP GST Filers

Taxpayer registered in the QRMP (Quarterly Return Monthly Payment) scheme to prevent interest and penalty on late fees are reminded by the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) to file their returns within the deadline. It is significant to have GSTR-3B and GSTR-1 within the stipulated time to maintain compliance and furnish businesses and customers with a simpler Input tax credit flow.

GSTR-3B Monthly GST Summary Return

The GSTR-3B must be filed by every regular GST-registered business in India as it is a monthly summary return. GSTR-3B Return came into force in July 2017 as an easier business method to meet the needs of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime.

Outward supplies (sales), inward supplies (purchases), input tax credit (ITC) utilised, and net GST payable due for a specific tax period do count under the return. The requirement of GSTR-3B is not similar to GSTR-1, i.e, it does not ask only aggregated numbers. But, the values that are reported need to be appropriate and in line with other returns so that no mismatches and penalties are there.

Even after not having any business activity, the taxpayer should submit GSTR-3B in a particular month. Before filing a return, the tax payable should be paid, as the system does not support filing when there is no payment.

Interest and late fees on the unpaid amount are drawn when the return is not due. GSTR-3B is typically filed monthly; however, under the QRMP scheme, small businesses are allowed to file it quarterly. The GST regime’s critical part is GSTR-3B. The government makes tax collection within time under GSTR-3B, allowing qualified businesses to claim ITC.

Understanding the QRMP Scheme

QRMP is known as Quarterly Return Filing and Monthly Payment of Taxes. Under India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, the scheme is effective for taxpayers, which is directed to facilitate compliance for small taxpayers.

Rs 5 crore turnover companies can opt to submit their GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B returns every quarter rather than monthly within this scheme. Although the returns are required to be filed quarterly, irrespective of that, taxpayers must file quarterly returns, either under the fixed-sum mode (based on historical tax records) or under the self-assessment mode (based on existing sales records).

Advantages

  • It lessens the filing chances of returns from 24 to just 8 annually (4 GSTR-1 and 4 GSTR-3B).

  • Eases the compliance for small businesses.

  • Streamlines cash flow management with monthly payments.
